Innovative, interactive Web site for young children

Poisson Rouge

Poisson Rouge (or Red Fish Soup) presents a unique multimedia experience for preschoolers that is both comfortingly old-fashioned and modern in its feel. Offering an abundance of simple games, puzzles, and animations, Poisson Rouge displays a sophisticated awareness of children's growing skill sets. Shapes, numbers, and colors are prominently explored, but what makes the site a delightful surprise is how it fuses these simple concepts with innovative whimsy.

The site's home page is designed to look like a welcoming, cozy playroom where you can explore a toy chest full of amusements from paper dolls to a fishing pole. Art, language, music, and nature are emphasized throughout the site. In one feature, a child can click on a piano keyboard to create his or her own song; in the art gallery, youngsters can experiment with creating Jackson Pollock imitations.

There is not only an English alphabet in which each letter leads to a fun little game (for example, clicking the letter C will take the user to a kitchen to make a cake,) but a French and Spanish alphabet as well. The site's French designers have created an interface intended to encourage a child's naturally exploring mind, avoiding any written instructions and keeping games purposefully simple and intuitive. It's this refreshing philosophy that makes Poisson Rouge a virtual oasis of creativity and exploration for children.
